Maharashtra recorded 40,925 fresh Covid cases on Friday, a 13% increase over Thursday. Of these, about 51 per cent were recorded in Mumbai alone. Apart from this, 20 people have died due to infection in the last 24 hours in the state.
Maharashtra capital Mumbai on Friday reported 20,971 fresh Covid-19 cases, apart from the infection cases, amid rising omicron cases in the state. In the last 24 hours, 6 people succumbed to the infection. Today’s cases are slightly higher than yesterday when 20,181 cases were reported in the city.
Of the fresh cases reported today, 17,616 people were asymptomatic, which accounts for 84% of the fresh cases.
Earlier today, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar said no decision would be taken on the weekend curfew. PM Narendra Modi will chair a review meeting with CM Uddhav Thackeray on the situation of COVID in the state today.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday said that COVID-19 patients with mild symptoms can stay in home isolation instead of institutional quarantine or hospital.
Amid a sharp rise in cases in Mumbai, the BMC also reduced the minimum period of home isolation to seven days from the earlier 14 days.
According to the fresh guidelines issued by the BMC on Thursday night, home isolation will continue for at least seven days after testing positive.
It may end after the patient has not reported fever for three consecutive days.
