Thane: A 33-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a police constable while he was being taken to the police station. Bhiwandi city of MaharashtraThane district, police said on Saturday.
An official said that the incident happened late on Friday night, when accused Subhashchandra Chhotelal Agrahari was having a fight with another person and the police was taking the two to the police station for questioning.
The officer said that the accused allegedly abused police constable Rahul Pawar (35), threatened him with death and attacked him with a wooden log kept in the vehicle.
He said Pawar, who suffered a head injury in the attack, is being treated at a local hospital.
Based on the complaint of the injured policeman, a case has been registered against the accused under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) and other relevant provisions, the official said.
