‘Love yes, Shawnee’: Kevin Pietersen highlights Shane Warne’s sportsmanship in touching note

The demise of legendary cricketer and former Australian spinner Shane Warne has shocked everyone. Cricketers and fans across the world poured heartfelt messages and prayers for him. Everyone including friends, family and rival cricketers are mourning his demise by paying tributes through various social media platforms.

Shane Warne had rivalries with many opponents during his career. Kevin Pietersen was one of them and it was always a pleasure to see the two face to face during the Australia-England matches. Kevin posted a commendable message for Warne on social media as a tribute to the veteran. A picture of both the players congratulating Warne during an old Test match is visible on Pietersen’s Instagram handle.

Pietersen wrote that although Shane Warne played “very hard”, he always congratulated a player if he achieved a milestone in a match. He said Shane was a “special player, competitor”. [and] person.”

“He worked hard and I mean very hard, but if you did something special he always congratulated you! Just a special player, contestant and person! Love you, Shawnee!” Peterson wrote.

Joe Root, Virat Kholi, Ravi Shastri, Shoaib Akhtar, Michael Holding and many others also paid tribute to the king of spin. The cricketing world was shaken by the sudden demise of the player as he posted on Instagram just hours before his death.

After Shane Warne died in his hotel room in Thailand last week, autopsy results suggested the death was of natural causes. Warne had suffered a heart attack.

Shane Warne played 145 Test matches and 194 ODIs in his career span of 15 years. He took 708 wickets in Tests and claimed 293 scalps in the shorter format.
