Lord Ram To Be Depicted As ‘Archer’ At Ayodhya Temple

New Delhi: The trust in charge of the Ayodhya Ram temple project has decided that an idol of Lord Ram will be installed in Ayodhya. temple under construction Will be in the form of an archer and will be carved out of “Krishna Shila” or black stone from Karnataka. The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust finalized the specifications of the idol during a two-day meeting that ended late Tuesday evening. “The new Lord Ram idol, in his five-year-old avatar, will be five feet tall.” “The idol will be in a standing posture armed with a bow and arrow,” Swami Tirtha Prasannacharya, a member of the trust, was quoted as saying by news agency PTI on Wednesday.

Speaking to PTI, he said, “Arun Yogiraj will carve the idol with stone brought to Ayodhya from Karnataka’s Karkar and Heg Deven Kote villages… The sculptor will finalize the stone from which the idol will be made.”

Trust general secretary Champat Rai said they selected the “Krishna Shila” after consultations between saints, geologists, sculptors, experts in Hindu scriptures and office-bearers of the trust.

He said the devotees are eagerly waiting for the new idol of Ramlala to be placed in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple on the festival of Makar Sankranti next year.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had performed “Bhoomi Pujan” for the construction of the temple on August 2, 2020. The temple is being constructed following the Supreme Court’s verdict in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute.

Earlier in January this year, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had announced that the Ram temple in Ayodhya would be ready by January 1 next year (2024). Adding to Shah’s statement, Champat Rai, general secretary of the temple’s trust, said the construction of the Ram temple would be completed “on time”.
