look | Video of Aaditya Thackeray ‘catcall’ of BJP MLA Nitesh Rane in Maharashtra Assembly surfaced

A video of BJP MLA Nitesh Rane allegedly abusing Maharashtra Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray has surfaced. In the video, Rane, who along with other party MLAs sat on a dharna in the Vidhan Bhawan complex, was seen “meowing” as the minister entered the Legislature building. The incident took place on 23 December.

The Maharashtra Assembly was adjourned for some time on Monday after Shiv Sena members demanded suspension of Rane, son of Union minister Narayan Rane, for his “inappropriate behavior” towards Thackeray.

The issue was raised by Shiv Sena MLA Suhas Kande after the Question Hour. Kande said that all the members agreed that indecent behavior against political party leaders should not be allowed, Rane justified his behavior and told reporters that he would continue to do so.

“Aditya Thackeray, being an eminent figure, walked away ignoring Nitesh Rane. We will not tolerate insult to our leader.

Echoing similar sentiments, other Shiv Sena leaders Sunil Prabhu and Bhaskar Jadhav supported Kande. Both demanded that Rane be permanently suspended as a member of the state assembly.

Shiv Sena members raised slogans in support of their demand after which the Speaker adjourned the House for 10 minutes.

After the resumption of the House, Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis said that Rane would be reprimanded for his comments. But it is not right to suspend a member for an incident that happened outside the House, he said.

Fadnavis said earlier Bhaskar Jadhav used to make noise when NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal entered the House. Chandrakant Patil (of the BJP) wondered why the incident that happened outside was being discussed in the House. “Did Nitesh Rane take any name?” He asked.

The presiding officer said that a meeting of all the leaders of the group would be held on Tuesday to ensure that such incidents do not happen again.
