New Delhi: The Lok Sabha on Monday passed a bill to repeal three agricultural laws by voice vote on the first day of the winter session.
The bill was passed by voice vote amid sloganeering by opposition MPs.
Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar laid agriculture law repeal bill 2021 morning before home. Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury demanded a discussion, but Speaker Om Birla rejected it.
Earlier in the day, Congress MPs led by Sonia and Rahul Gandhi protested in front of the Gandhi statue inside the Parliament premises, demanding repeal of three laws.
Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait welcomed the passage of the bill in Lok Sabha and said, “It (Agriculture Laws Repeal Bill, 2021 passed by Lok Sabha) is a tribute to all 750 farmers who lost their lives during the agitation. The protest will continue. MSP Including other issues are still pending.”
The Bill was also circulated among Rajya Sabha members on Friday.
Farmers have been staging dharna at several border points in Delhi for over a year, demanding the repeal of the three laws.
PM Modi had announced in an address to the nation on November 19 that all three laws would be repealed.
The Union Cabinet approved the bill in its meeting held last Wednesday.
