HD Kumaraswamy claimed that a pen drive containing obscene videos of his nephew Prajwal Revanna were allegedly circulated with the help of police officers
Amid the ongoing probe in the sex tape controversy in Karnataka, former Chief Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy on Tuesday said a pen drive containing obscene videos of his nephew and Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna were allegedly circulated with the help of police officers.
Addressing a press conference, Kumaraswamy said, “Today I am here to talk about an incident which shouldn’t have happened in society. On April 21, a pen drive was circulated throughout the state. It was done with the help of police officers. The videos were circulated in Bengaluru Rural, Mandya, and even in Hassan intentionally.”
Kumaraswamy informed that Prajwal Revanna’s election agent Poornachandra filed a complaint with the Hassan DC and Police on April 22. “At 8 pm on the night of April 21, a person tweeted to watch Prajwal Revanna’s videos. I am not defending anything in those videos. Law has to take its own course, punishment must be given. The complaint was filed against four individuals about the circulation of videos. It’s been 15 days since the complaint was filed. Till now no action has been taken against them for circulation of videos,” he added.
“When SIT was formed I thought the probe would be fair but this isn’t the case this SIT is the Siddaramaiah Investigation Team and another team is the Shivakumar Investigation Team. They call the SIT to their house and discuss the case,” Kumaraswamy said while addressing the press conference.
Kumaraswamy Questions SIT Probe
Kumaraswamy further stated that till now no one has filed a direct complaint against HD Revanna. “There was a complaint that she was kidnapped. When Revanna applied for bail the advocate of the SIT argued that they didn’t know whether she was alive or not. But later she was rescued from a farmhouse. Till now that victim was not produced before the judge,” he pointed out.
“This guy called Karthik (driver) gave a statement on April 30th and circulated to the media about the case. To date Karthik Gowda, who circulated the video, has not come in front of the public, he has not been arrested. The SIT did not put effort into searching for him. I’m asking the Home Minister if the investigation is being carried out against just HD Revanna and Prajwal Revanna?” the former Karnataka Chief Minister said.
The Sex Tape Controversy
A major controversy erupted in Karnataka after a video clip, allegedly showing Prajwal Revanna, surfaced on social media. Notably, the videos surfaced a day after the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections concluded on April 26, when 14 out of 28 seats from Karnataka went to vote.
It was alleged that the explicit video was allegedly shot by Prajwal and was circulated widely in the Hassan constituency. However, the Hassan MP denied the allegations and said that the viral videos were morphed.
Following this, a woman lodged a formal complaint accusing the MP of sexually assaulting her multiple times between 2019 and 2022.
