Live Cricket News, February 14 Latest Updates Women T20 World Cup WPL 2023 Auctions IND vs AUS Border Gavaskar Trophy Schedule

59.5 crore collectively to build a strong set of players to compete in India’s first full-fledged women’s T20 league.

Australia’s Ashley Gardner turned out to be the costliest overseas player in the WPL 2023 players auction. He was bought by Gujarat Giants for a hefty sum of Rs 3.2 crores.

Meanwhile, Renuka Singh became the costliest bowler by signing a Rs 1.5 crore deal from Royal Challengers Bangalore. Australia’s Beth Mooney has joined Gujarat Giants as the most expensive wicketkeeper with a price tag of Rs 2 crore.

Shafali Verma, 19, joined Delhi Capitals with a price tag of Rs 2 crore, becoming the youngest player to bag the biggest deal. He is followed by Richa Ghosh, who was bought by RCB for Rs 1.9 crore.

the all-rounder was the favorite

If we categorize all the 87 players sold, we find that there are 46 all-rounders, 14 pure batsmen, 17 pure bowlers (including fast bowlers and spinners) and 10 wicket-keepers. The equation shows that no matter IPL or WPL, franchises prefer the all-rounder as he has the ability to perform in both the ways.

Big names not sold

As only 87 players managed to attract buyers in action, the list of unsold players is quite long. There are some big names in it like Dani Wyatt and Katherine Brunt of England, Alana King and Amanda Jade Wellington of Australia, Suzie Bates of New Zealand and Stafanie Taylor of West Indies.

Also, it is equally surprising that some of the capped Indian players remain unsold. Meghana Singh, Priya Punia, Poonam Raut and Anuja Patil have represented India at the highest level but failed to attract any takers at the auction.
