LIVE: Councillors Exchange Blows, Slaps During MCD House Session; Delhi Mayor Oberoi Alleges BJP Councillors Pushed Her

Interrupted only after casting 45 votes.

Out of 250 MCD corporators, 242 had voted till Friday afternoon and the counting process was also underway and lasted for two hours. Following this, Mayor Oberoi then told the members that a vote was invalid and without it the result would be declared, a move strongly opposed by the BJP members.

This happened when chaos broke out in the House as corporators from the BJP and the AAP started shouting and pushing each other. Both sides blamed each other for the incident which forced the mayor to adjourn the House.

Councilor Ashok Manu fainted and was taken to a nearby hospital.

BJP corporator Pankaj Luthra alleged that it was AAP’s fault due to which there was ruckus in the House. At the same time, AAP MLA Atishi alleged that BJP members got agitated and attacked the Mayor of Delhi when they felt that their party would lose the election.

After witnessing yet another rowdy session at MCD House, Oberoi rushed to the Kamla Market police station to lodge an FIR against the BJP councillors. He has requested the police officers to provide his security.

Shelly Oberoi said that the standing committee elections were held as per the demand of the BJP. “Still, they created a ruckus and came on stage to attack me. I thank the women civil defense personnel for saving me. BJP members manhandled AAP women members. BJP accepts your defeat.

The uproar led to the adjournment of the proceedings of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House till February 27.
