LinkedIn introduces identity verification in India with Aadhaar numbers, Indian phone number

New Delhi: Professional social networking platform LinkedIn has launched its new identity verification feature for Indian users. In a blog post in this regard, Ashutosh Gupta, Country Manager, LinkedIn India, said that through this feature, IDs issued by the Government of India are verified by one of LinkedIn’s verification partners. This feature has been made available for users having valid Aadhaar number and Indian phone number.

Gupta said that with this feature of LinkedIn, users will be able to verify themselves through their Aadhaar card. Even if someone does not have Aadhaar, they will be able to verify other information on LinkedIn using a variety of methods. He further added that the platform will not have access to any sensitive data from the members’ Aadhaar.

LinkedIn recently rolled out ID verification in the US in April. Later it was announced to launch this feature in other countries as well. In this sequence, users in India will be verified through their Aadhaar number. Hyperverge in India is a third-party identity verification service that uses DigiLocker to handle ID verification of government-issued IDs such as Aadhaar cards, along with online wallet ID verification.
