Lineman Aspirants Protesting Eligibility Norms Lathicharged | Chandigarh News – Times of India

PATIALA: The police on Tuesday lathicharged protesters seeking lineman;s job and staging sit-in in front of PSPCL office here against the new conditions in the eligibility test for recruitment.
The Kotwali police also registered a case against 107 protesters, including 17 identified by name, and detained several others. The protesters claimed that turbans of several protesters came undone and many of them were injured in lathicharge at around 6.15 pm. The protesters said they were demanding a meeting with chief minister Bhagwant Mann and were twice assured in the past but were not allowed to.
Earlier, linemen were appointed on the basis of apprenticeship and around 8,300 were in the same way during the past several years. Recently, the government decided to hold an eligibility test for the recruitment of 1,690 posts of linemen.
“We were protesters since July 27 and were promised a meeting with CM Mann but no meeting was held. So, some of protesters climbed up the water tank two weeks ago. We were again promised a meeting with the CM but again nothing happened,” said a protester.
