The demise of vocal queen Lata Mangeshkar has shocked millions of her fans in India as well as in Pakistan. Like India, crores of people in Pakistan also consider her as their role model, but do you know that Lata herself used to consider Pakistani singer Mallika E Tarannum Noorjahan as her role model.

Lata and Noorjahan were always praising each other. The Partition of 1947, like crores of people, had separated both of them from each other. In 1951, when both of them met at the Attari border, they hugged each other and started crying bitterly.

Before 1947, Noor Jahan’s work land was Mumbai and during that time Lata was also emerging in the field of singing. The two also acted together in a film. Well, during the partition of the country, Noor Jahan went to Lahore in Pakistan and Lata stayed in Mumbai.

Simplicity… didn’t even know that visa-passport needed
Music lover Naresh Johar tells that in 1951, for a duet song with Noorjahan, composer C. Ramachandra reached Attari with Lata ji. But he did not have visa-passport, as a result he was stopped. Then Lata had a conversation with Nur Jahan through C. Ramchandra.

When Noor Jahan came to India in 1982, an event was organized in her honor. Lata Mangeshkar and Dilip Kumar also participated in this event.

It was decided that wherever Noor Jahan should come on the border. C. Ramachandra has written in his autobiography that No Man’s Land was chosen for the meeting of the two. From there Noor Jahan came with her husband and from here Lata. Both of them hugged and started crying bitterly.

praise each other forever
The ‘Naushadnama’ written by historian Raju Bharatan states that Lata once said that Noor Jahan had been her model. She has been listening to his songs. At the same time, Noor Jahan also often used to say that whenever I am in free time, I definitely listen to Lata’s songs. Born in British India, Noor Jahan may have settled in Pakistan after partition. But, the climate of India used to call him often.
