Lata Mangeshkar health update: Doctor asks fans to pray for her recovery

Renowned singer Lata Mangeshkar is under observation in the ICU of a city hospital here, the doctor treating her said on Saturday.

The 92-year-old singer tested positive for coronavirus with mild symptoms and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of South Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital last week.

Dr Pratat Samdani, Associate Professor, Breach Candy Hospital, said that Mangeshkar will remain in the hospital for some time.

“She is still under observation in the ICU. We will have to wait and see. Pray for her recovery. She will remain in the hospital,” Samdani told PTI.

On Thursday, Mangeshkar’s niece Rachna Shah had said that the singer is doing well.

“She is doing well and we are happy with it. Everyone’s prayers have worked. Please take care of our privacy,” Shah told PTI.

According to Shah, Mangeshkar was admitted to the ICU as he required “continuous care” due to his age.

Regarded as one of the greatest singers of Indian cinema, Mangeshkar began his career in 1942 at the age of 13 and has over 30,000 songs to his name in several Indian languages.

In her over seven-decade career, she has sung various memorable tracks such as “Ajeeb dastan hai ye”, “Pyar kiya to darna kya”, “Neela asman so gaya”, and “Tere liye”, among others.

Known as the Nightingale of India, the singer has been bestowed with several awards and accolades including the Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke Awards and several National Film Awards.

She is also the recipient of Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award.
