Lakhimpur violence: Ashish Mishra sent to 14-day judicial custody

Lakhimpur Kheri: Union Minister Ajay Kumar Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra, arrested in connection with the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days.

Senior prosecution officer SP Yadav said a medical team examined Ashish Mishra at the crime branch office here, after which he was produced before a judicial magistrate, who sent him to 14-day judicial custody.

He said that an application for police remand of Ashish Mishra was submitted to the judicial magistrate, who fixed the date of hearing at 11 am on Monday.

A senior official said that the Union Minister’s son has been kept in Kovid Quarantine in the District Jail here.

“Initially, the prisoners are kept in isolation, away from the main barracks. They are being given jail food. The quarantine period is of 14 days and he will be (medically) tested,” he said.

There is also a “threat perception” angle, the official told PTI. However, he refused to divulge more details.

According to sources, the son of the Union Minister has been kept in barrack number 21.

Ashish Mishra, who was arrested around 11 pm on Saturday night after being questioned by the SIT at the Crime Branch office in Police Lines, spent the night in the district jail.

He was produced in a court late Saturday night after nearly 12 hours of questioning in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence in which eight people were killed.

He had appeared before the SIT at around 10.30 am on Saturday after he had not come for questioning when the second summons was sent to him the previous day.

The name of the Union minister’s son was registered in the FIR after allegations that he was one of the vehicles that crushed farmers protesting the October 3 visit of Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya. Was.

The Supreme Court had earlier on Friday expressed dissatisfaction over the action taken against the accused in the Lakhimpur incident, which had sparked widespread outrage.

The United Kisan Morcha, which is spearheading the movement against the three agriculture laws of the central government, had alleged that the violence was a pre-planned conspiracy and demanded the arrest of the minister and his son.
