Lakhimpur Kheri accident: Sidhu, other Congress leaders stage a sit-in outside Punjab Governor’s house

Eight people were killed in the violence during the farmers’ protest at Lakhimpur Kheri on Sunday, in which both farmers and BJP workers lost their lives.

Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu along with several party MLAs staged a protest outside the Raj Bhavan here on Monday. Lakhimpur Kheri incident in Uttar Pradesh. Sidhu, Madan Lal Jalalpur, Gurpreet Singh along with other Congress MLAs and several members of Punjab Youth Congress sat on a dharna outside the residence of Governor Banwarilal Purohit and raised slogans against the BJP.

They demanded the arrest of the son of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra for his alleged involvement in the Lakhimpur Kheri case. Eight people were killed, in which both farmers and BJP workers lost their lives in violence that broke out during farmers’ protests in Lakhimpur Kheri on Sunday ahead of the visit of Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya.

Of the eight dead, four were traveling in cars, apparently part of a convoy of BJP workers who had come to welcome the minister. He was allegedly beaten to death. Officials said four others were farmers. An FIR has been registered against Mishra’s son and several others in connection with the violence.

The protesters also condemned the detention of Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s alleged remarks against farmers.
