Karnataka on Thursday reported 2,052 new cases of Covid-19 and 35 deaths, taking the total number of infections to 29,01,247 and the toll to 36,491.
This compares with 1,531 fresh infections and 19 deaths on Wednesday and 1,501 new cases and 32 deaths on Tuesday.
The total number of active cases in the state stood at 23,253 on Thursday.
While the positivity rate for the day stood at 1.37 per cent, the mortality rate (CFR) was 1.70 per cent.
Speaking to reporters in New Delhi earlier in the day, the Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai Said that there is a need to tighten the borders and take measures to conduct mandatory testing to contain the spread of the virus.
Saying that he has spoken to the deputy commissioners of Dakshina Kannada, Chamarajanagar, Mysore and Kodagu districts (which border Kerala), he said, “We have to tighten our borders. We have to do mandatory testing and vaccination.”
After his visit to Delhi, Bommai said he would hold a video conference with the deputy commissioners and health officials of various districts.
“We need to take measures to further strengthen our health infrastructure. The priority is to stop the spread of the disease.”
Bommai also said that people traveling by road are being screened.
There is a need to keep an eye on railway passengers.
The deputy commissioner and the superintendent of police will have to take up the responsibility of the investigation, he said, adding that he has spoken to the chief secretary in this regard.
