KMC elections: Ruckus outside Suvendu Adhikari’s house after BJP delegation stopped to meet Governor

A commotion was reported outside the residence of Leader of Opposition (LoP) Suvendu Adhikari in Kolkata’s Salt Lake on Sunday when a large contingent of police force attacked the BJP leader and his team of 20 party officials, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Singh. Salt Lake is an extended part of Kolkata but officially comes under North 24-Parganas district in West Bengal.

According to reports, a large team of police forces from Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate took their positions outside the Salt Lake residence in the afternoon and closed the main gate to prevent the officer and others from going to Kolkata.

The officer was seen getting into a heated argument with the police and was heard asking the police why he and other party members were stopped from traveling to Kolkata.

Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar said in a tweet that Suvendu Adhikari and others were to meet him at 6 pm. “Leader of Opposition @SuvenduWB has communicated “My residence in salt lake was completely blocked by Bidhannagar police, 20 BJP MLAs including some state leaders stayed here. Soon after the governor’s tweet, Suvendu Adhikari, Arjun Singh and other BJP leaders were allowed to visit the Raj Bhavan and were escorted by the police. The police took him to the Raj Bhavan to prevent him from meeting anyone other than the governor.

Speaking to the media, the official said, “We want re-polling in all wards of Kolkata Municipal Corporation due to violence, rigging and booth capturing by the ruling TMC.”

Meanwhile, TMC leader Partha Chatterjee responded to the BJP leader’s allegations and questioned the intention of the BJP MLA to gather and demanded a probe.

“They gathered in Salt Lake for violence during KMC elections. I request Bidhannagar Police to investigate the matter. Why so many BJP MLAs gathered there? I demand an inquiry into this matter.”
