Farmers leader Rakesh Tikait urged the farmers and their supporters gathered for the ‘Kisan Mahapanchayat’ to raise the slogans of ‘Allah Hu Akbar’ and Har Har Mahadev to show solidarity. A large number of farmers not only from UP but also from adjoining states of Uttarakhand, Haryana and Punjab voted in the Mahapanchayat in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district called by the United Kisan Morcha.
Bharatiya Kisan Union spokesperson Tikait said these slogans were spoken together earlier and will be raised together in future also. Attacking the ruling BJP, he said, “These people (BJP) have always done the work of dividing people and are responsible for the riots. We have to stop them. We have to work creatively. We will not give our Uttar Pradesh in the hands of those responsible for the riots.
“Had we started our fight against three black agricultural laws, the movement would have been killed on January 28. There was a force in thousands and we were outnumbered, but we did not give up,” he said in his address to the assembled crowd on Sunday.
On the issue of farmers’ protest, Tikait said, “We are not going anywhere till our demands are met. We want MSP guarantee on our agricultural produce. We will hold protests across the country till our demands are not met.
“The Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) had promised to double the income of farmers by 2022. The protest has been going on for almost nine months now, but the government has stopped talking to us. They did not even pay tribute to the hundreds of farmers killed during the protest,” Tikait said, adding that the UP government did not increase the price of sugarcane which has worsened the condition of the farmers.
supporting farmers, BJP MP Varun Gandhi He said there was a need to “understand the pain of farmers” on Sunday. His statement has been welcomed by Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Jayant Chaudhary.
