KGF star Yash says his character ‘Rocky’ takes inspiration from Amitabh Bachchan’s films

KGF Chapter 2 star Yash is all set for the release of his film on 14th April. The action film also stars Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon, Srinidhi Shetty and Prakash Raj in pivotal roles. The film franchise centers around a power-hungry smuggler who attempts to gain a monopoly on the Kolar Gold Fields. The film has been compared by fans to the anti-hero films of Amitabh Bachchan’s 70s and 80s, when the actor was at his peak. Yash talked about these comparisons in a recent interview.

To provide some context, characters from the 1970s and ’80s in Bachchan’s films were young antagonists who expressed feelings of anger and rage. They typically followed the trope of a young Robin Hood who entered the criminal underworld with almost nothing but some violence and wit, the protagonist making it to the top of the criminal food chain. Yash’s character in KGF, Rocky, identifies and checks all the boxes of these character traits, which range from being a smuggler, obsessed with strength and power as a child, trying to raise a gold empire. Judging by his trope.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, a fan sent a query to Yash, asking him if he could remake one of Amitabh Bachchan’s films, which would it be. Yash replied, “The remake is not liked personally (I personally do not like the remake) and with Mr Bachchan, it is better not to touch it. They are classics. Which is their work (whatever their work is, I don’t think I will do anything).”

The interviewer then asked if KGF was inspired by Amitabh Bachchan to some extent. The actor replied, “It’s the belief system, the essence of the hero and their heroism – that kind of film. It has nothing to do with a film but in general the kind of films they used to make, that’s the essence of it.” , which the whole of India wants to see. At least everyone I meet says they love these kinds of films.”

Directed by Prashanth Neel, KGF Chapter 2, who also directed the first film, is predicted to be a blockbuster. The film has also broken the advance booking record in North India. As of Monday, the film had sold tickets worth ₹20 crore in North India, including ₹11.4 crore for the Hindi version alone, reports Pinkvilla.
