State Education Minister V Shivankutty on Sunday said a detailed action plan for reopening schools in Kerala would be prepared after discussions with the departments concerned. Shivankutty said that discussions are on with various departments to ensure the safety of children attending the schools.

“A detailed plan to ensure the safety of children will be prepared in consultation with health officials and district collectors at the state and district levels and will be presented to the chief minister by October 15,” Sivankutty told the media here. The minister said the scheme would include masks, sanitizers and social distancing measures for students and guidelines for vehicles carrying students to schools.

After being closed since March last year, the Kerala government on Saturday decided to reopen schools in the state from November 1. A decision in this regard was taken in the COVID-19 assessment meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday.

“The Chief Minister has directed the officials to meet the requirements at least 15 days in advance for the reopening of schools. Classes for standard 1 to 7 (primary section) and 10 and 12 will start from November 1. All other classes will resume from November 15,” a release issued by the Chief Minister’s Office had said.
