Kerala: Schools to have regular classes from February 21 | Thiruvananthapuram News – Times of India

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Schools in the state will reopen from Monday but, regular classes till evening will commence only from February 21. Education minister V Sivankutty said the directive is applicable to all schools, including those following ICSE and CBSE syllabus.
However, teachers’ organizations have protested against the government releasing the reopening guidelines when the education minister has scheduled a meeting with the teachers’ organizations on Tuesday to finalize it.
The minister said that from Monday till February 21, classes till standard IX will be held only till noon. All Saturdays, except public holidays in February and March, will be working days. However, for the pre-primary section, classes will take place only from Monday to Friday. Teachers should try to ensure that all students come to school.
It has also been decided to conduct annual exams for classes I to IX. The model examinations for SSLC, Plus Two and vocational higher secondary will start from March 16. Schools can conduct additional classes to finish the syllabus, the minister said.
As the government allowed the opening of creche and kindergartens, pre-primary classes can begin from Monday. Classes will have only 50% attendance from Monday to Friday initially. Digital or online classes will continue as per the demand.
Educational officers should visit schools and analyze the progress of completion of the syllabus and preparation for the annual exams. A report should be submitted to the deputy director of education. It has been directed that the academic syllabus of Class 10 and 12 should be completed before February 28, and the revision process should start from March 1.
All teachers of Class 10 and 12 have been asked to submit a detailed report on the syllabus that has been completed till date in each subject to the school heads and this should be submitted to the district educational officers every Saturday. Date of the final examinations for classes I to IX will be decided later, said the minister.
