Kerala: Sabarimala pilgrimage postponed on Saturday due to rain, red alert issued on Pamba Dam

Chennai: Coastal areas in the southern part of India have been raining for almost three weeks now that normalcy has become crippling. Disrupting the normal functioning of markets, people harassing people with rain water entering houses and several houses collapsing due to torrential rains have been in the headlines recently.

In this context, the district administration on Saturday issued an order suspending the Sabarimala Ayyappa temple pilgrimage due to heavy rains in Pathanamthitta, Kerala. District Collector Divya S Iyer said that due to heavy rains, the water level in the Pamba river has risen, while the gate of the dam (where a red alert has been issued) will be opened later.

District Collector Divya said, “The pilgrims who have booked virtual queues will be given an opportunity to have darshan at the nearest possible slot when the weather is favourable. We request the pilgrims to cooperate by not traveling during this period.” ANI.

However, the district administration should allow the pilgrims who have already reached the base camp at Nilakkal in different batches.
