Thiruvananthapuram: Many parts of Kerala Heavy rains continued on Thursday as the Meteorological Department issued an ‘orange alert’ for six northern districts, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall there.
According to the latest update of India Meteorological Department (IMD), an orange alert was issued for Palakkad, Kozhikode, Kannur, Malappuram, Wayanad And a yellow alert for Kasaragod districts and Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki and Thrissur districts.
It also said that the southern state is likely to receive widespread rainfall under the influence of a low pressure area for the next three days from today. Arabian Sea away from Lakshadweep region.
“A low pressure area has formed over east-central Arabian Sea adjoining Lakshadweep area and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea. It is very likely to move east-southeastwards towards Kerala coast during next 48 hours,” the IMD said.
Under the influence of the above, Kerala is very likely to receive widespread rainfall with heavy to very heavy rainfall during October 14-16.
Meanwhile, the four shutters of the Neyyar dam here, managed by the state’s irrigation department, will be raised by a total of 160 cm by noon as widespread rains lashed the capital, officials said here.
They were already raised by a total of 120 cm (30 cm each), the district collector said in a statement here on Thursday.
