Kerala Health Minister says modest increase in Covid cases not a cause for concern; Emphasis on masks, vaccination

Kerala Health Minister Veena George on Friday said that the cases of Kovid in the state have increased slightly, but there is nothing to worry as no new form has been found. Covid infections are of the omicron type.

The Minister held a high level review meeting to take stock of the COVID-19 situation at the district and state level. He said that we have to live with Kovid and stressed on making wearing of masks mandatory.

The minister said that those who have to give second dose and booster shot, they should take it immediately. He said that health workers should take booster dose and directed officials to ensure awareness campaign.

“More Covid cases have been reported in Ernakulam, Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam districts. People with symptoms should get tested,” she said.

The minister said that since the number of COVID cases has come down, many people are hesitant to take another precautionary dose, calling it “dangerous”. He said that the dosage should be taken at the right intervals for maximum benefit.

Noting that COVID-related deaths have been reported among those who were not vaccinated or have co-morbidities, the minister said, people with co-morbidities should get tested for COVID immediately if they show symptoms. Report the beginning.

Although 100 percent of people over the age of 18 have been vaccinated with the first dose, 88 percent have received the second dose and only 22 percent have received the precautionary dose.

Among those aged 15-17, 83 percent received the first dose and 55 percent received the second dose.

Of those aged 12-14, 54 percent have been vaccinated with the first dose and 15 percent for the second dose.

Field workers will be assigned to collect data on people who have not been vaccinated at the local level. The minister warned that as soon as schools have reopened, all measures will be taken to vaccinate all children in consultation with the education department.
