Thiruvananthapuram: The state government may review its recent decision on post-COVID treatment charges for people falling under the APL category.
According to sources Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan The health department was not happy with the decision which was believed to have been taken without proper discussion.
The order was issued by the Principal Secretary (Health) on August 16 stating that the government is introducing treatment charges for post-Covid treatment in government hospitals for people falling under the APL category. The order also said that private hospitals can fix rates for treatment within the rates fixed by the government.
However, this was not well received by the opposition members and there was severe criticism regarding the sudden decision to fix the treatment fee for people in the APL category. It is learned that the Principal Secretary (Health) has issued the order on the basis of the instructions received from the Finance Department.
The Finance Department had suggested that it was not appropriate to continue free treatment for people under the APL category due to huge financial liability. It had also pointed out that there has been an increase in the post-Covid cases in the state which required hospitalisation.
However, the chief minister was upset with the decision taken by the health department, and the health minister was informed about the same. In a recent order issued by the health department, Rs 750 per day for general ward, Rs 2,000 as ventilator charges and Rs 1,500 per day as ICU charges in government hospitals for people falling under APL category have been fixed. Were.
Similarly, the rates fixed for general wards in private hospitals range between Rs 2,645 to Rs 2,910, where hospitals have less than 100 beds and hospitals with more than 300 beds. For private rooms (with A/C) charges were fixed between Rs 5,290 to Rs 9,776 per day, ICU charges between Rs 7,800 and Rs 8,580 per day and ventilator charges between Rs 13,800 and Rs 15,180 per day.
