Kerala CPI(M) leader booked for kidnapping after daughter’s complaint

A 23-year-old woman, daughter of a senior CPI(M) leader here, has accused her parents of forcibly snatching her newborn baby from her a year ago soon after its birth and approached the police to get the child. Anupama S Chandran, daughter of CPI(M) local committee member PS Jayachandran, alleged that though she had lodged police complaints several times since April, she was reluctant to register a case against the family members.

However, police here said that a case was registered against six persons including her parents, sister and husband and two friends of the father on Tuesday and said that the delay was because they were waiting for a legal opinion.

Several charges have been framed against the accused under IPC sections 343 (wrongful confinement), 361 (kidnapping by wrongful guardianship), 471 (using fake document as original) etc.

Anupama, a former leader of the Students Federation of India (SFI), a feeder organization of the CPI(M), alleged that though she had submitted her complaint to senior leaders of the Marxist party, including Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, no one helped her. Of. to get her child back. “Should this is how the police react when a woman goes to them with a missing complaint of her child? Do they take legal opinion for every such matter? I strongly feel that there was a deliberate delay to save my father and family members,” she told the media.

According to Anupama’s complaint, her parents did not like her relationship with Ajit, who was also the leader of the Left Party’s youth federation. Since the child was born out of wedlock, they took the child by force three days after delivery from the hospital.

She left the house in April and has been living with Ajith since then, she said. Police said, however, that his father Jayachandran admitted that the child was separated from his daughter by him, but claimed during interrogation that this was done with his consent.

“The father claimed that he had given his consent in a signed stamp paper that he did not mind handing over the child as she was not able to take care of the infant. However, the complainant said that the family had forced her to sign the paper. In October last year, he runs a child welfare center in Thycaud.

As per the rules of the centre, when they find a child in their cradle, they keep it with them for the next two months. He said that if no one comes to claim the ownership of the child, they will allow the public to adopt the child. The police officer said, “We have contacted the officials of the welfare committee… they have admitted that they had got a child on the same day, but are not ready to reveal anything further as it is about their adoption. It is against the rules and norms.”

The official said that investigation is on to collect more information and trace the child. Meanwhile, the State Commission for Women on Thursday registered a case of incident based on the complaint of the woman.

An official statement said the commission’s chairperson P Sathidevi sought an immediate report from the police chief in this regard and decided to summon the accused during a meeting to be held next month.
