health minister Veena George Said that children who have lost their parents COVID-19 were identified in a door-to-door survey conducted by the volunteers of the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS). Based on the survey conducted, the respective child welfare committees in each district visited them and collected the details of what kind of help these children need in future.
As per the government’s earlier decision, these children will be given a fixed deposit of Rs 3 lakh and a monthly assistance of Rs 2,000 in the name of the child. Apart from this, the cost of the education of these children till the degree course will be borne from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
As per the guidelines laid down by the government, the children who lost both their parents due to COVID-19, the children who lost their parents in death after three months of being negative , but the death was due to complications that occurred during the time. For COVID-19, children who do not have parents and who have lost a sole guardian in the pandemic and children who have lost a sole parent during the pandemic will be eligible for compensation announced by the government.
The minister said that there will be no criteria for the annual income of the family to get this benefit from the government. However, children of families receiving family pension of the State Government will not be considered for this.
The Minister said that the fixed deposit has been decided in such a way that children can use the amount after the age of 18 years. But they can withdraw the interest any time they need.
