Kaveri And Kalanithi Maran –India’s Highest Paid Entrepreneur Couple Took Home Rs 1,500 Crore In Last 10 Years

New Delhi: Sun TV promoter Kalanithi Maran and his wife Kaveri Kalanithi are among the highest-paid Indian business couple, taking home a combined total of around Rs 1,500 crore in the past decade.

According to information from the company’s annual report, published for the first time in 2022, the Maran family received Rs 1,470 crore as managerial compensation between FY2012 and FY2011. Compensation includes salary, perquisites, other allowances and gratuity/bonus.

Sun TV Group Executive Chairman Kalanithi Maran received 87.50 crores in FY11, and Executive Director Kaveri Kalanithi received a similar amount. Four years ago, the owners also opted not to raise wages and keep their compensation at the same level. As a result, he received the same salary in both FY18, FY19, FY 20.

Meanwhile, his daughter Kavya Kalanidhi Maran, who was appointed as director and executive director with effect from April 1, 2019, earned a management salary of Rs 1.09 crore.

Maran family owns Sun TV

The Maran family owns 75 per cent stake in Sun TV, which operates satellite television channels in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali and Marathi. It owns FM radio stations and owns the Sunrisers Hyderabad cricket franchise of the Indian Premier League as well as the OTT platform Sun NXT.

Broadcaster Sun TV Networks Ltd on Friday reported a 35.32 per cent rise in consolidated profit after tax at Rs 493.99 crore for the first quarter ended June. The company had reported a profit after tax of Rs 365.03 crore in the April-June period a year ago, a regulatory filing said. Sun TV’s operating revenue grew 48.88 per cent to Rs 1,219.14 crore in the latest June quarter. 818.87 crore in the same period a year ago.
