SHIVAMOGGA: Back home after attending a birthday party, 25-year-old Ashvak Tagari, the Shivamogga central jail warder, made a whatsapp video call He along with his wife allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday night at his flat in the police premises here.
Shifa, who is at her ancestral home in Belagavi district after giving birth to a baby girl 20 days ago, immediately alerted the Shivamogga jail authorities. By the time they reached Tagari’s house and broke the door, he was found dead.

Police said the jail authorities found him hanging from the ceiling fan. Shifa is from Arnal village and Tagari is from Hosur village, both in Hukkeri taluk of Belagavi district. He had joined the police department last year and this was his first posting.
Police are yet to get details of the video call and the reasons for the suicide. According to his associates, Tagari attended his friend’s birthday at the police premises on Wednesday and returned home around 8 pm. Police said he called after 9 pm. During the call, he wished his family good health before taking this extreme step.
His father Babu Tagari and father-in-law Raje Saab, who reached Shivamogga on Thursday, told that Ashwak was suffering from stomach ailment for many years. Both denied marital or family disputes as the cause of Tagari’s death. Raje Saab told reporters, “He was a caring person. We promised him to provide the best possible treatment.”
“He was a physically fit and efficient warder,” said jail officer Mahesh Kumar Jingi. Shivamogga Superintendent of Police BM Lakshmi Prasad said a case has been registered at Tunga Nagar police station and Tagari’s body was handed over to his parents after post-mortem.
