In a disturbing incident in the Belagavi district, a man reportedly severed the nose of an anganwadi teacher in a fit of anger. The motive behind the attack was attributed to school children plucking flowers from the man’s garden. The local authorities have taken prompt action, and the assailant has been apprehended by the police.
According to the police, the disturbing incident took place on Tuesday in Basurte village, Belagavi district. The accused, identified as Kalyani More, engaged in a dispute with the teacher, Sugandha More, aged 50. In the course of the altercation, Kalyani More violently severed Sugandha’s nose. The victim, Sugandha, was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Belagavi, where she underwent medical treatment, including a blood transfusion, due to profuse bleeding.
The anganwadi center, managed by the women and child development department for the last two decades, is located in a rented building owned by the accused, Kalyani More. The unfortunate incident unfolded during a break at the school when the children visited Kalyani More’s garden to collect some flowers. In a disproportionate reaction, the accused, armed with a sickle, chased the children away and subsequently targeted the teacher, launching a violent attack.

Police Commissioner Siddaramappa said, “After shouting at the teacher for her careless act of leaving the children in the garden, he angrily brandished the sickle, and cut her nose.” He added that the accused absconded after the incident but police arrested him on Wednesday. “Kakati police registered a case and arrested the accused based on the victim’s complaint.”
An official from the hospital where the teacher, Sugandha More, is undergoing treatment provided an update, stating, “The woman had a respiratory problem as a few nerves in the nose were cut. Now she is out of danger.” Despite the severity of the incident, it seems that the victim is now in a stable condition.
Surgeons who are attending to the woman have suggested that her severed nose could potentially be reconstructed if the missing piece is brought to them. Unfortunately, the woman’s relatives and neighbors, who admitted her to the hospital, have stated that they were unable to locate the missing piece at the scene of the incident.
