Three of the six students, who have been protesting since December-end, were to take the exam on Monday.
Two students had practical in the morning while one in the afternoon.
Principal denies allegations of intimidation
Principal Gowda told that two students reached the college in the morning. He wanted to enter the lab wearing a hijab.
“The staff tried to convince them and then directed them to my room. The police also arrived. We tried our best to persuade them to take the exam. Although it was late, we were willing to give them some grace time. However , he preferred to leave the college without speaking. There is no supplementary exam for practicals and it will cost him one year.”
The student who did his practical in the afternoon reportedly did not come to the college.
However, AH Almas, one of the petitioners who moved the High Court, tweeted: “Today was our final practical exam! We had completed our record book and went in with high hopes of appearing in the practical exam. It was very disappointing when our principal threatened us saying, “You have 5 minutes to leave, if you don’t go, I will file a police complaint.” Right now we should have been in our lab to attend practicals, should not have been forced to go. The hopes I had from college and my dreams are being shattered.”
In a video message, the girl claimed that the lecturers refused to sign the record book.
Responding to Almas’s tweet, the college principal said, “The allegations are baseless. Whatever happened in my chamber happened in the presence of a lady police sub-inspector and a lady lecturer. Since she has approached the court, I have Requested her to remove the hijab and answer the exam as per the interim order of the HC as it is a matter of her future.”
