MYSURU: While Dakshina Kannada is struggling to contain the spike in Covid-19 cases, which is apparently fueled by interstate commuters, Chamarajanagar The district, which also shares borders with Kerala apart from Tamil Nadu, has brought in single digits daily fresh cases since August 16.
The number of active cases has also come down below the 100 mark.
On Sunday, eight cases were reported in Chamarajanagar, while only five new cases were reported in it on Saturday. Of these, four were reported from Chamarajanagar taluk and the other from Gundlupet.
The district has only one case on Friday (August 20), six cases on August 19, seven cases each on August 18 and 17 and 10 each on August 16 and 15. As per the district war room data, there were active cases on Saturday. At 90, of whom only four are in ICU. That is, the number of serious cases has also come down drastically.
Officials say the drop in the number of cases, especially in rural areas, is a big relief. “There is more movement of people in the border areas, so the falling numbers are a positive sign. Officials said the decision to strictly follow the COVID-19 guidelines is yielding results.
District Health Officer Dr MC Ravi said: “We are carrying out extensive vaccination drives in the border areas. We have made negative certificate mandatory for crossing borders with other states. The demand for transit passes is high in border areas. We expect this number to fall further. People should keep supporting us in this fight.”
