Karnataka BJP Red-Faced: MP Tejasvi Surya Seen With ‘Absconding’ Rowdy-Sheeter; Bookie Inducted into Party

In an embarrassing situation in the run-up to the 2023 Assembly elections, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Bengaluru South MP Tejashwi Surya and Bengaluru Central MP PC Mohan have been given “absconding” rowdy-sheeter Mook Sunil alias Sunil Kumar was seen with An event on Sunday, while another rowdy fighter Ravi alias Mallikarjuna joined the party on Monday in the presence of senior ministers. Who are they?

Kumar was added to the troublemakers list at High Grounds and Amritahalli police stations. He has been on the list for almost two decades. He never spoke during interrogation, earning him the nickname ‘Silent Sunil’. He was also booked under the Karnataka Control of Organized Crime Act (KCOCA) for attempt to murder, kidnapping, extortion and land grab. He is a contender for BJP ticket from Chamarajpet assembly constituency.

Ravi is a cricket bookie who was named in 2012-13 for illegal betting despite several raids and arrests at Vaylikwal police station. He was a regular feature in rowdy parades and was last arrested in 2018. He is a contender for BJP ticket from Nagamangala assembly constituency.

The Congress has been quick to hit out at the BJP, asking how the saffron party caught criminals while the police was struggling to find them.

“How come @BJP4Karnataka leaders got their hands on these miscreants while CCB police could not?” Karnataka Congress tweeted.

Defense

Dr. Ashwathnarayan defended Ravi. “Everyone should get equal opportunity to live in the society, law applies to all. He has not been convicted in any case, the law does not allow a convicted person to contest elections. We should let them live according to the law,” said the Higher Education Minister.

Meanwhile Prahlad Joshi said, ‘Don’t know about him. They will not be taken into the party just because Tejashwi or Ramesh says so. The party president and others will check their background and then take a decision,” said the Union minister.
