Filmmaker Karan Johar, who will be directing Ranveer Singh in his next, recently revealed that his first impression of the actor was not good at all. The 49-year-old director had appeared on Sunday’s episode of Indian Idol 12 as a special guest and revealed many secrets about it. Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Ranveer too. During the episode, Karan recalled the time when Aditya Chopra consulted him about casting Ranveer in Band Baaja Baaraat.
Karan said that when he saw Ranveer for the first time he was shocked and told Aditya that Band Baaja Baaraat would be a flop. However, when Aditya showed him Ranveer’s audition video, Karan was shocked. On the sets of Indian Idol 12, Karan said that he considered his first impression after watching the audition tape and realized what acting really is. “Looking is not everything,” underlined Karan.
Karan also shared an interesting fact about Shah Rukh. Karan said that when he was around 15 years old, he was a part of DD National’s sci-fi show Indradhanush. One day on the sets, Karan saw a man busy solving crossword puzzles. After a while the man got up and told the director that he would not do his show, to which the director asked why he had come to the set and waited so long in the first place.
Karan said that the man replied to the director that he liked tea on the sets and also had to finish the crossword. Karan revealed that the man was Shah Rukh himself, adding that at that time he also thought about how this man with such an attitude would become a star. “However, he is a superstar today,” said Karan, concluding his story.
Meanwhile, in the special episode of Indian Idol 12, Karan praised all the contestants and gave one of them a chance to sing for his next film.
