Karan Johar talked about Student of the Year 3 during the Cinevesture International Film Festival (CIFF) in Chandigarh. He also mentioned his upcoming web series, directed by Reema Maya of Nocturnal Burger fame, as reported by TOI.

Talking about teaming up with new directors and writers, Karan gave the example of Reema, saying that Reema Maya will direct the digital version of Student of the Year. He added, “But it will be her way and definitely not mine because if I’ll enter Reema Maya’s world, then I will make it more of an illusion, which is what her name means. I just wanted it to be her voice. She made it her own series.”

Reema, an award-winning writer-director and co-founder of Catnip production house, is known for her independent filmmaking. Her short films, including Counterfeit Kunkoo, have been well-received at film festivals like Sundance. Her recent work, Nocturnal Burger, premiered at Sundance Film Festival 2023. She has also directed videos for brands like Netflix, Red Bull, and boAt.

In 2012, Karan Johar launched three newcomers with Student Of The Year: Alia Bhatt, Sidharth Malhotra, and Varun Dhawan, marking their Bollywood debuts. Some years later, Puneet Malhotra directed ‘Student Of The Year 2’, starring Tiger Shroff, Ananya Panday and Tara Sutaria.

There were reports suggesting that KJo plans to cast Shanaya Kapoor in the film franchise turned into a web series. Shanaya, who is gearing up for her debut in Mohanlal’s ‘Vrushabha’, was set to also mark her entry into the OTT space. Although her debut was anticipated in Dharma Productions’ Bedhadak, alongside Laksh Lalwani and Gurfateh Pirzada, the film has reportedly been put on hold.

On the work front, Karan Johar’s last directorial was Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. He teased fans with the announcement of a film in January but didn’t disclose the title or cast of the film.
