Karan Johar clarifies that becoming a single parent was not due to not having a partner: ‘They are not related’

Karan Johar had earlier confessed that he was ‘deeply sorry’ for not having a life partner. However, he has now clarified that he did not choose to adopt paternity to fill the void. The ace filmmaker is a single father to two kids – twins Roohi and Yash. KJo welcomed the children through surrogacy.

In a recent interview, Karan was asked if he decided to become a single parent due to not having a partner in his life. However, Karan denies this saying that the love given by the partner is different from the love given by the child. He said that one should not decide to have a child until they are emotionally ready for it.

“Just because you’re not in a relationship doesn’t mean you should be a parent. When you’re emotionally ready you’ll know you want to be a parent. The two are not related at all. Nahi ki mere jeevan mein pyar nahi toh main bache le aaunga (It’s not because I don’t have love in my life, I should have kids),” he said.

“One cannot take the place of the other. The love you get from a romantic contact is very different from the love you get as a parent. And they are very different forms of love. You have to be emotionally prepared to be a parent. Because, parents are very selfless persons,” he said.

Karan also said that his pool of love is complete with his mother Hiru filling half of his heart while his children fill the other. He said that although the lack of partner would remain, but love did not leave him. “It’s not that love has ever avoided me, but romance has,” he said.

On the work front, Karan has recently returned with the new season of Koffee With Karan. KWK 7 started this week with Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh making their first guest appearances. Apart from the show, Karan will be making his directorial return with Rocky and Rani’s love story. He also announced an action film which he will direct.
