Ashutosh is the owner of the car that hit the 20-year-old girl for about 12 km in the early hours of January 1. He was dragged for 12 kms.

Police included two more accused

In a dramatic development, Delhi Police’s Special CP (L&O) Sagar Preet Hooda on Thursday said that the police have added two more names to the list of accused.

“During interrogation, we also came to know that the car was driven by Amit and not Deepak. Two others- Ashutosh and Ankush Khanna have also been made accused in this case. We are trying to arrest them. During the postmortem No evidence of sexual assault was found,” he said.

“We have arrested 5 accused and we are interrogating them. During interrogation, we found that two more people are involved in the incident. Our team is conducting raids. We have recorded the statement of eyewitness,” Special CP (L&O) said. ,

The police officer said the accident took place between 2.04 am and 2.06 am and the victim’s mobile phone is yet to be recovered.

He said that we have not found any pre-accident connection between the accused and the victim.

The police officer said that 10 teams are working to solve the case.

During the investigation, it was found that the statements of the five accused were not in the same line.

Earlier, sources said 10 vehicles including PCR vans and night patrolling units were deployed to trace the attacker vehicle which hit and dragged him for 12 km from Sultanpuri to Kanjhawala. But, they failed to trace the killer car.

His body was later found at Kanjhawala in outer Delhi. Out of these 10 vehicles, three PCR vans from Kanjhawala, Hoshambi Border and Aman Vihar areas were trying to chase the Baleno car but could not do so due to dense fog and the car went into narrow lanes instead of the main road. Police, sources said.

Sources said that on that fateful night several teams under four ACPs of Rohini district were deployed to trace the car, PCR collect details from the callers and identify the victim as well as the accused involved in the case . Nagar, Begumpur and Prashant Vihar were deployed to solve the matter.

According to sources, the first PCR caller informed the police at 2:30 pm on January 1 that the Baleno car fled from the spot after the incident. The second PCR call, which was received at around 3:30 am, informed the police that the woman’s body was trapped under the vehicle, but was unable to give them the registration number of the car due to dense fog and poor visibility.

How did the police find the car?

However, with the help of an automatic number plate reader camera installed in the Kanjhawala area, the police were able to trace the Baleno car and identify the vehicle’s registration number, which eventually led them to the owner of the offending vehicle.

Meanwhile, another CCTV footage recovered by the police showed that a PCR van had crossed the same stretch between Sultanpuri and Kanjhawala within about five minutes of the incident. Commenting on the developments, a police officer associated with the investigation said that the PCR (police control room) van, which had crossed the area, was on its way to settle a fight that had broken out in the area.
He said that three people have been arrested in this connection.

When the police van was returning after attending the PCR call, he saw a scooty in an accident condition and informed the SHO of the area.

“Since no one was found near the spot, it was presumed that the victim must have been taken to the hospital by a passerby. By the time the police traced the ownership of the vehicle, it was established that it belonged to Anjali Singh, who was involved in the accident. Killed,” the officer said, adding that the scooty was registered in the name of Singh’s mother.

The sources also said that the police have recovered another CCTV footage in which the victim is seen drinking and fighting. Police said that however, the post-mortem report is not conclusive and only through viscera it can be established whether someone was under the influence of alcohol or not.

Meanwhile, demanding a probe into the claims of Anjali’s friend, Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal said the victim had died a tragic death and should not be “characterised”.

“She died a painful death. She was dragged through the streets of Delhi for 12 kms and her body was found naked. Her friend’s claims should be investigated. Anjali should not be blamed for what happened to her. Accused should be hanged.” He said. Anjali’s friend Nidhi had said that Anjali was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. All the five accused in the case are currently in police custody.
