Kanjhawala death case: Another CCTV footage surfaces, shows accused meeting owner of car

New Delhi: There has been another twist in the Kanjhawala road accident case, a new security footage has revealed, hours after the hit-and-run case in which a 20-year-old woman died after being dragged under a car for several miles went national. The Delhi Police on Friday arrested Ashutosh, the sixth suspect to be taken into custody in connection with the January 1 incident, and launched a manhunt to nab the seventh person.

In the latest CCTV footage, Ashutosh is seen talking to the accused two hours after the incident. According to Delhi Police, CCTV footage shows that at 4:07 am one of the accused came to meet Ashutosh and after that Ashutosh is seen coming and going to his house several times.

The police believe that the accused is none other than Ankush, who is the seventh accused in the case and whose name had recently cropped up in the entire case.

On Thursday, Delhi Police’s Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Sagar Preet Hooda had said that Ashutosh and Ankush Khanna were friends of the five arrested and had tried to save the accused. Both have also been accused of tampering with evidence and misleading the police.

Delhi Police officials said, “In the new CCTV footage, Ankush is also seen talking to someone on the phone.” Ankush was talking to the accused on the phone. Ashutosh was last seen on CCTV at 4:52 am walking towards his house. According to the police, Ashutosh had left the house at 4.42 am wearing a jacket and returned at around 4.52 am. ,” the police said.

Delhi Police is interrogating Ashutosh to find out where the accused went during those ten minutes and what was the conversation between them. Delhi Police said on Friday that Ashutosh has been arrested. Delhi Police’s Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Sagar Preet Hooda today said, “Ashutosh, the sixth accused in the Sultanpuri case, who had given false information to the police, has been arrested. Further investigation is underway.”

Five accused in the case – Deepak Khanna, Amit Khanna, Krishna, Mithun and Manoj Mittal – were arrested earlier. All five were driving a car borrowed from Ashutosh. On Thursday night, the five accused were taken to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital for medical examination.

According to the police commissioner, Ashutosh and Ankush, while trying to help the accused, also tried to tamper with the evidence. A total of 18 teams of Delhi Police are probing the case. During interrogation, it was found that Amit Khanna was driving the car and not Deepak. The Special CP said, “We are trying to file the charge sheet at the earliest. No evidence of sexual assault was found during the post-mortem.”

According to the police, the statement of eyewitness Nidhi has been recorded and no connection has been found between the eyewitness and the accused. Special CP Hooda said, ‘Only after the post mortem report comes, we can give a statement whether she was drunk or not, it has nothing to do with this case, because it is a case under section 304 of the IPC.’
