On Wednesday, Chandigarh Mayor Kuldeep Kumar had said Governor Purohit had “embarrassed him publicly” and MP Kirron Kher “sanitised the mic after he spoke”

Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit lashed out at Chandigarh Mayor Kuldeep Kumar a day after he claimed the Union Territory Administrator had “insulted him”. Purohit on Thursday said he wouldn’t “keep listening to allegations”.

“I am not a saint… that they will keep piling allegations and I will keep listening to them… Jungle raj nahi hai (This is not Jungle raj). A system has to be followed by everyone… Free mein baant rahe ho to paisa kahan se denge (This is not a jungle raj… Where will you get the money to distribute [water] free of cost),” Purohit said while speaking during an urgent press conference, according to an Indian Express report.

On Wednesday, Chandigarh Mayor Kuldeep Kumar had said Governor Purohit had “embarrassed him publicly” and MP Kirron Kher “sanitised the mic after he spoke”. Kumar also stated Governor Purohit had not just “misbehaved with me but with citizens of Chandigarh …who were happy with the relief we were giving”.

UT Administrator Purohit, on the other hand, stressed he had not used any offensive words against Chandigarh Mayor Kuldeep Kumar in his speech on Wednesday.

“Paise hain nahi, na koi calculation hai, na koi system hai… aur tum announce kar rahe ho… jab implement nahi ho sakta.. isse ganda koi kaam nahi ho sakta (There’s neither any money nor a calculation. There’s no system in place either. And, you make an announcement when it can’t be implemented. There’s no worse thing than this). It’s a fraud against the people of Chandigarh,” the Punjab Governor was quoted by Indian Express as saying.

Purohit further slammed Kumar for making “such allegations” about MP Kirron Kher, who the Chandigarh Mayor had alleged got the microphone sanitised after he spoke.

“Imagine such words for our MP who is a cancer patient who usually takes precautions everywhere because of health issues… Aisi laanchhan lagana theek nahi (It’s not good to cast such aspersions),” Purohit said.

“You can watch the video… He introduced me to some other representatives. Maine unhe mere sofe pe bithaya, chai peelayi sath, snacks khilaye….3 pm ke baad bole apmaan ho gaya… 3 pm se pehle apmaan to nahi tha. Delhi se order aayein kya ki apmaanit huye? (I made him sit on my sofa, and offered tea and snacks. It was only after 3:00 pm that he claimed he was insulted. It didn’t happen before 3:00 pm. Were there orders from Delhi that he was insulted?),” Purohit added.
