Jharkhand To Get Its First Female CM? What’s Cooking In JMM!

After ignoring the seventh summon by ED in the land scam case, JMM’s chief and Jharkhand’s chief minister Hemant Soren has called a legislative meeting on January 3 at 04:30 pm at CM’s residence.

Kalpana Soren in the house?

Speculations are doing rounds that post this meeting, the coalition government of JMM, Congress, and RJD, led by Hemant Soren may announce its new chief minister and it would be none other than Kalpana Soren, the wife of the current chief minister.

No relief for Hemant

Hemant Soren sees no relief coming his way after being named in the land scam case. Since the first summon that led to the arrest of the former district collector in August 2023, he has ignored all seven summons but now has no escape from it.

Big changes in politics

On December 31, Sarfaraz Ahmed, an MLA from Gandey submitted his resignation which added to the speculations. Why did the senior leader resign when all was well between him and Soren?

This hints that Soren is going to follow the Lalu way. Is Jharkhand and Bihar division by geography going to see a unification by politics? Maybe yes! The former CM of Jharkhand, Babulal Marandi said quite the same in his tweet on January 2.

Kalpana Soren originally hails from Odisha and hence cannot contest on any reserved seat in Jharkhand and this is why Sarfaraz chose to ‘sacrifice’ his seat from Gandey. This was an unreserved seat and is not vacant. If this is what cooking in the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, the BJP sitting in the opposition has already cracked it.

The land scam case has made it tough for Hemant Soren who now has no choice but to report to the ED on its summons. If the speculations come to be true, the tribal state for the first time will have a female chief minister.

Repeating the Lalu pattern?

The whole scene seems to be crafted in a repeating pattern, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav too handed over the Bihar government to his wife Rabri Devi before being imprisoned, the latter served as the chief minister for three terms. She was known as a ‘dummy’ chief minister for being in the chair in spite of being uneducated. The same noun is being used for Kalpana Soren by the BJP leaders, but education stands tall as the difference. The lady from Mayurbhanj, Odisha has pursued her bachelor’s from Ranchi University.
