Two shops and an auto rickshaw were set on fire by the warring groups and police fired tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Brick-pelting and arson broke out between two groups in Jamshedpur’s Shastri Nagar over alleged desecration of a religious flag, prompting authorities to impose prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC in the area, an official said.

He said two shops and an auto rickshaw were torched by the warring groups and police fired tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Adequate police force has been deployed to maintain law and order in Shastri Nagar under Kadma police station area of ​​Jharkhand.

Sub-Divisional Officer (Dhalbhum) Piyush Sinha said, “Prohibitory orders have been imposed in the area under section 144 of the CrPC.”

Vijaya Jadhav, Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum district, said some anti-social elements were trying to disturb peace and sought cooperation of citizens to foil their designs.

“We are monitoring the situation closely and adequate police force, a quick reaction team, a magistrate, Rapid Action Force personnel and other anti-riot resources have been deployed to maintain law and order,” he said in a statement. “

Police said tension prevailed in the area since Saturday night when members of a local outfit found a Ram Navami flag with a piece of flesh stuck to it.

The situation turned violent on Sunday evening when a shop was torched and brick-pelting started from both sides.

The mob also set an autorickshaw on fire, prompting the police to fire tear gas shells.

DIG (Kolhan) Ajay Linda said local miscreants torched shops and auto rickshaws.

The Deputy Commissioner said that strict action would be initiated against those involved in anti-social activities to disturb communal harmony.

He also urged people not to pay heed to rumors or share inflammatory posts on social media.

Besides the DC, Senior Superintendent of Police Prabhat Kumar, Superintendent of Police (City) K Vijay Shankar and Sub-Divisional Officer (Dhalbhum) Piyush are camping in the area.
