Now the CBI will investigate the murder of Vinay Mahato, a student of Sapphire International School in Ranchi. The Jharkhand High Court gave this order on Thursday while hearing the petition of the father of the deceased student in this case. The court of High Court Judge Justice SK Dwivedi on Thursday ordered to hand over the investigation of Vinay Mahato murder case to the CBI. Along with this, the court has directed the investigating agency to complete the investigation of the incident in eight months.

Significantly, Vinay Mahto, a student of Class VIII of Sapphire International School in Ranchi, Jharkhand’s capital, was found dead on February 5, 2016 in the campus outside the teachers’ residential quarters. After being found outside the residential quarters, Vinay was taken to Guru Nanak Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Following this, Vinay Mahto’s father Manbahal Mahto had filed a petition before the Jharkhand High Court in 2018 seeking a CBI probe into the murder of his son Vinay. Manbahal Mahto, in his petition before the High Court, mentioned that there were irregularities in the investigation conducted by the police and that the police did not investigate properly. He said that there are many lapses in the investigation which have not been noticed by the investigating officer. The police completed the investigation by holding a teacher and his family responsible for the murder.

In October last year, the high court had directed the state government to file an affidavit in the matter explaining why the Binay Mahto murder case was not handed over to the CBI since 2016.
