Jet fuel price hiked by 18%, airfares hiked – Times of India

New Delhi: Amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict, airfares are likely to rise sharply with jet fuel prices going up by 18% on Wednesday.
Since fuel makes up about 40% of operating costs for airlines, the expensive fuel will hit the expected recovery with the resumption of regular international flights later this month and a jump in travel in the summer.
Kolkata will be the most expensive airport for the carrier at Rs 1,14,979 per 1,000 kiloliters or KL, followed by Chennai (Rs 1,14,133). The price will be slightly lower in Delhi (Rs 1,10,666), while Mumbai will have the cheapest aviation fuel (Rs 109,119).
This is the sixth increase in jet fuel prices since January in line with the rise in crude oil. This is because the government does not intervene to cushion the passengers as aviation is considered a field of affluence.
IndiGo CEO Ronojoy Dutta said, “We are in talks with the government to bring this ATF Input tax credit is available under GST. We believe such measures are needed now more than ever.”
