Jaskaran Malhotra among the nominees for the ICC Player of the Month for September

Dubai: Indian-American Jaskaran Malhotra, who became only the fourth player to hit six sixes in an over in an international match, was on Wednesday named among three nominees for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for September. The other two male nominees were Bangladesh spinner Nasum Ahmed and Nepal leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane. England captain Heather Knight, her compatriot Charlie Dean and South Africa’s Lizelle Lee were named ICC Women’s Player of the Month. The 31-year-old Malhotra, who was born in Chandigarh and captained Himachal Pradesh at the Under-19 level, hit six sixes in an over against Papua New Guinea in a World Cup League 2 match in Oman on September 9. 173 not out.

His performance against Papua New Guinea, against which he finished with figures of 6/11, caught everyone’s attention. Among women, Charlie Dean was a revelation in the home ODI series against New Zealand, emerging as the leading wicket-taker for the hosts with 10 wickets at an average of 19.20 and an economy rate of 4.64. Helped by the performance of the off-break bowler, England won the series 4–1 with their major contributions in the second (4/36) and fourth (3/52) matches respectively. England captain Heather Knight also came under fire with both bat and ball during the series against New Zealand. In five ODIs, he scored 214 runs at an average of 42.80 and a strike rate of 88.06.

His notable contribution came in the first and fourth ODIs, where he played crucial innings of 89 and 101 respectively. He also took three wickets at a poor economy rate of 4.66. The last female nominee, Lizelle Lee, was in a league of her own during the ODI series against West Indies in the Caribbean.

In four matches, he scored 248 runs at an impressive average of 124. Emerging as the leading run-scorer in the series, he played three brilliant innings of 91 not out, 78 not out and 61 in four matches.
