Jammu and Kashmir: Encounter underway between security forces and terrorists in Baramulla

An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in the Sopore area of ​​Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir in the early hours of Tuesday. A police official said the security forces launched a cordon and search operation at Pethseer in Sopore area on late Monday night following information about the presence of terrorists.

He said the search operation turned into an encounter in the early hours of Tuesday when the militants opened fire on the posts of the security forces.

So far no casualties have been reported from either side. Kashmir Zone Police tweeted, “Encounter has begun in Sopore. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details to be followed.”

Recently, the number of encounters in the Valley has gone up. At least three unidentified terrorists affiliated to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) were killed in an encounter between security officials and terrorists on Saturday. The encounter took place in the upper reaches of the forest area of ​​Nagberan Tral of Awantipora in Jammu and Kashmir.

Two terrorists were gunned down by security officials on Friday in a similar encounter in Awantipora. The police had also recovered some incriminating material including arms and ammunition.

Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar on Friday informed that one of the two terrorists killed in the Awantipora encounter was involved in the killing of a peon in a government school on July 23.
