It is not practical to talk about Third Front at this time, CPI(M) leader MA Baby is ahead of Party Congress

CPI(M) politburo member MA Baby said it was not practical to talk of a third front at the national level at this point of time. The Congress of the 23rd party of CPIM will be held in Kannur district of Kerala from 6 to 10 April. The Party Congress, which is held every three years, discusses the party’s political line as well as its organizational strengths and weaknesses.

There will also be a discussion on what needs to be done to strengthen the party in different parts of the country and the stand taken by the CPI(M) before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Baby said, “At this point in time, the search for a third option at the national level is premature and impractical. The only primary political task is to defeat the BJP. In every state, we will prepare a suitable election strategy based on the overall political strategy. We will decide what is appropriate, what is practical in each state, it is a more realistic approach.”

Another senior CPI(M) leader said more than just coming together as a third front, issues like how federalism is being affected should be worked out.

The party has reduced the maximum age to be part of the central committee from 80 to 75. This has been done so that more and more youth can be brought in. Sitaram Yechury is in his second term, there is every possibility of him being elected as the next General Secretary.

In the current Politburo, S Ramachandran Pillai, Biman Bose, Hanna Molla and Pinarayi Vijayan are members above the age of 75. Vijayan will be given age relaxation. Women are also likely to have a higher presence in the new Central Committee.
