‘IT department will now contest elections’: Akhilesh Yadav reacts to tax raids on allies

The Income Tax Department raided the houses of people associated with the Samajwadi Party in the early hours of Saturday. Raids were conducted at the residences and offices of Jainendra Yadav in Lucknow, Rajiv Rai in Mau, Manoj Rai in Agra and some others associated with SP and party chief Akhilesh Yadav. Meanwhile, Akhilesh attacked the BJP over the raids and said that the party was misusing the agencies on the lines of Congress.

Addressing the press conference in Rae Bareli on Saturday, Akhilesh Yadav said, ‘IT has arrived, soon ED and CBI will also come to UP. But this is not going to stop the march of the Samajwadi Party. Rajiv Rai is our leader, why raids are being conducted now and not earlier? Now the IT department will contest the elections.

“From journalists to farmers to Azam Khan, all those who raise their voice against atrocities will be targeted. The BJP is now following the path shown by the Congress by misusing the central agencies,” Akhilesh said. He said such raids showed the desperation of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

“Similar things were done during Bengal elections also and people taught him a lesson. Here too people know why such raids are being conducted now. BJP’s time is over now, people are going to choose Samajwadi Party government in the state,” Akhilesh said.

Akhilesh further attacked the BJP government of the state and said, ‘SP workers are being sent to jail in false cases. BJP is now scared and hence it is misusing the agencies.

The SP chief is in Rae Bareli for the seventh phase of his Rath Yatra. Today, on the second day, the SP President will address a public meeting in Munshiganj area of Sadar assembly constituency and then move to Unchahar and Salon seats.

The Rath Yatra is considered a lucky charm by the Samajwadi Party because whenever Akhilesh has gone on one, the SP has formed the government in the state. So far, the SP chief has completed six phases of his ambitious Rath Yatra in different parts of the state. The sixth phase of his journey took place in Jaunpur, while in the fifth phase the distance from Banda to Mahoba was covered.

Earlier in the month of November, Yadav had started the fourth leg of his Vijay Yatra from Ghazipur to Lucknow via the Purvanchal Expressway, just a day after PM Modi formally inaugurated the highway.
