Basque: Bengaluru FC rode on Naorem Roshan SinghGreat strike is about to end Kerala BlastersA 10-game unbeaten run to a 1-0 win in an Indian Super League match here on Sunday and reach the top four for the first time this season.
After the first half, Roshan scored with a brilliant free kick in the 56th minute, which turned out to be the deciding goal.
With this win, Blues moved up to the fourth position with 20 points from 14 matches, while Kerala finished third with 20 points from 12 matches. They lost for the first time since their first game of the season.
After more than two weeks of play, Kerala looked on the more dangerous side to break the deadlock with Bengaluru in the opening exchanges.
Danish Farooq and Prince Ibarra came close to scoring but could not keep their efforts on target before George Diaz’s failed clearance hit Sunil Chhetri and nearly went inside but a cautious Nishu Kumar deflected the ball over the line.
During the first half, both the defenses kept things tight.
Bengaluru always deserved a goal and it came from a piece of individual talent at the start of the second half. Roshan, brilliant throughout the game and season, rolled in a delightful free-kick right outside the box, his magical left foot with a diving Prabhasukhan Gill and sending the ball past the net.
Kerala tried hard to level up but the edge they have shown in the last third this season has been lacking. Harmanjot Khabra operated a volley straight onto Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, while he was called into action again moments later, hitting him after an Adrian Luna shot was set up from the left wing by Diaz.
Bengaluru came close to doubling their lead, but substitute Clayton Silva saw Gill deflect his effort for a corner at the far post.
Udanta then set up Bruno Silva but his effort went to the bar.
