KARACHI: Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez has questioned the decision to reduce teams in domestic cricket besides the appointment process of the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board. Appearing on Geo News channel, Hafeez also criticized the abolition of departmental and bank teams in domestic cricket and said that it has left many domestic cricketers jobless and with no future. The PCB abolished the role of departmental and bank teams two years ago on the instructions of Prime Minister Imran Khan, who himself played a lot of domestic cricket for national airlines and other departments in his days.

Hafeez, who recently announced his retirement from all international cricket, also questioned the selection process of the PCB chairman. He said the time has now come to elect the chairman of the board as the right way round and not as an elected nominee of the prime minister’s mentor as originally intended.

The present process is not perfect as presently the chairman PCB was selected under a selection system and the process of selection of PCB chairman is not perfect. He said that the chairman of PCB comes on political grounds and the chairman who comes politically does not understand cricket at all.

He suggested that the chairman of the cricket board should be elected through elections. Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja is the current PCB chief. The 41-year-old announced his retirement after playing 55 Tests, 218 ODIs and 119 T20 Internationals for his country.

His last appearance for Pakistan was in the World T20 Cup in October after which he skipped the tour of Bangladesh and the home T20I series against West Indies.
