A holiday on account of ‘closure of accounts of banks’ takes effect on 1 April, when most banks across the country are closed, while the ‘holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act’ classification has the highest number of holidays.
In this regard, it is to be noted that the bank holidays covered under the Negotiable Instruments Act differ from region to region. For example, June 15 is a bank holiday in Aizawl, Bhubaneswar, Jammu and Srinagar due to YMA day/Guru Hargobind’s birthday/Raja Sankranti, but there are banks in other parts of the country.
